Ah, September

From an e-mail I got from paperbackswap.com:

Ah, September. Summer's over...back to school...the weather will be mild for a while longer. What could be better?

September is a lot of things: National Library Card Sign-up Month, National Pediculosis Prevention Month (you don't want to know!), National Read-a-New-Book Month, National Hispanic Heritage Month, National Better Breakfast Month. It contains the holidays National Newspaper Carriers' Day, National Grandparents' Day (this Sunday!), International Literacy Day, POW/MIA Recognition Day (the third Friday of the month) and Patriot Day (the eleventh, of course). Past Septembers saw these new inventions appear: the safety pin, Scooby-Doo, the department store, the first edition of the New York Times....September is a month of beginnings and remembrances, of starting new and also looking back.

I didn't know September had all those important days in it. Wow. More reasons to love it.

Spiders and other gripes

I have killed two of these in my house over the past week and both were in the EXACT same location. Apparently they are Funnel Web Grass Spiders.

I read on a website that their bite is not very harmful. HOWEVER, harmful bite or not, they WILL die of spontaneous compression when I find them here. I abhor spiders and each time a season changes I find some in the house[Scary Face]!

We went to Pepper's Deli tonight and ate outside on the patio. The weather was perfect, the chicken salad was great and the tea was wonderful. We sat near some people who had driven up from New Orleans to escape Gustave and they were ranting about how the Mississippi Police had gotten everything in a mess. They were doing fine until they crossed over into Mississippi.... I can understand that statement. Mississippi is a screwed up place and I can't wait to move out of it. I really shouldn't go there.

I have enjoyed my day off, but tomorrow will be business as usual. Well, almost as usual. We have to go to court all day (again, NOT A DEFENDANT! A LEGAL ASSISTANT!!!) to arraign the new indictments. Should be close to 100 people this time. Less than usual so maybe we'll get done shortly after lunch. I got my paperwork started and neatly packed into my briefcase on Friday so I could just grab it Tuesday morning and go. Hopefully the day will go well.
