This Abandoned Blog

Whew! What happened? A series of events since the last time I blogged! I won't bore anyone with the details, but now I can snap back into things and get back to blogging.

For one thing, I now have a 7th grader who is getting her schedule today. She is taking some advanced classes so studying will have to accelerate, for sure. She has been in gifted since the 2nd grade, but everything has been easy thusfar. Jr. High may just change that. One thing I am concerned about is her lack of drive. She has to be made to participate in voluntary AND mandatory projects. I know I need to help her with these things and I have in the past. I think it's time she took some initiative and completed a project on her own. We have gawked at projects at 3rd and 4th grade book fairs that were obviously done by the child alone. Just a bare poster or tri-fold board with downhill pencil writing on it. That is sad, people.

I just hope her 7th grade science fair project doesn't end up as stated. I will only talk. The rest is up to her. I bought a book with several project ideas in it like 2 years ago so there are no excuses!

My daughter came back from visiting family (for a month) with short red hair and legs 3 inches longer than when she left. We're going school shopping next weekend. She is going shopping with grandparents this weekend to Florence, Alabama and she is looking forward to it, of course! Who wouldn't! It's always nice to take a trip with grandparents so you are the star of the show. The red hair actually looks good with her blue eyes.

On another note, something funny I have noticed is the change in my dog. I was thinking about it the other day and he now 28 years old. He is still playful, but much less so than last year. In time, you know, dogs get to know the family they live with and take up similar habits. He will come jogging up to me and tap me on the top of the foot and look up at me like "Hi!" It's terribly cute. He has for a long time now been sitting up and waving his front paws (toes touching) at me when he wants something. Now he not only does that, but he also makes funny piecy growling/whooping sounds like he is trying to tell me what he wants. Trying to TALK to me. He obeys better than any child I have ever seen. You tell him to go and get something and by dingies he will come back with it. Something he has heard before at least.

He has started doing odd things, too. He will now climb on top of the coffee table (marble top) and stretch out. The first time he did it we just looked at each other with open mouths. We guess he does it because the tabletop is cool on his belly. It is still weird to see him do it. He isn't hurting anything, really. He also climbs on top of my daughter's game chest. Now more than ever before he will come up behind us and "eeeeep!" like a playful puppy. It's cute, no doubt, but it will scare the heck out of you.

Those two things, daughter and dog, are the only things I want to report on for now. Everything else is much, much more complicated! Maybe on my personal blog....
